Bench/lamp/end table

I've had an idea for an entry way piece of furniture for a while. It would have a minimal steel base that doubles as a lamp on one end, and supports a tray on the other (similar to our desk organizer). A few months ago, I drove to Phoenix to visit my grandpa. He recovers motorcycle seats and found me a great deal on an old Consew industrial sewing machine. He and I are both hands on learners, so we re-covered a seat together with him telling me what to do and what not to do. I fell in love with the machine right away. I've been woodworking and welding for a while and have done some sewing on smaller lightweight fabric machines, but sewing on my grandpa's old singer was like a whole new thing. I feel like there's endless possibilities with the machine and I have many ideas I want to try out but this bench had been on my mind so here we go..

I sewed up a rectangle seat using about 3" of foam and some tan marine vinyl. I already want to make a leather version but wanted to make one out of vinyl first in case it did not come out right (I hadn't really done this before). I sewed a cross pattern with 1/2" foam for the top inlay for extra comfort. 

I bent and welded up a base out of steel tubing and rod. I made a little plywood molded shelf that attaches to the leg on the left side. The little lip keeps it rigid and acts a stop for magazines or cups. The bench top it self is 3/4" solid walnut that I glued up, sanded and lacquered with a matte finish.

I powder-coated the base in the same satin black we use on all of our lamps and made a brass lamp for the other end. The lamp extends from the tubing on the base and is adjustable in height. It also swings left and right with an adjustable brass shade. I finished this up right before the west coast craft show, so we brought it along to get people's opinions. I did not plan on selling it (since it's the first one I made and I had no idea what I would charge for it) but many people were interested. It's kind of a strange piece of furniture so I'm glad people liked it. What do you guys think?
