Onefortythree started out as a blog (remember those?) in 2010 to document and share the renovations of the house our founders, Logan and his wife Roxy were working on making habitable. They purchased a half-finished log cabin and went to work getting it ready to move in to, doing all of the labor themselves. Our namesake comes from the address of this very home. Once they moved in, Logan, who started out working as a cabinet maker under his Dad, began making lamps and furniture to fill up their new space. Soon after, friends started requesting pieces of their own. With the encouragement of his wife Roxy, they opened an online shop in 2011. She immediately jumped in full time to give guidance and business savvy directives to balance out Logan’s creative side, all while attending law school nonetheless!
Being a young homeowner with a very limited budget led Logan to start staying late at his Dad’s shop to try to broaden his skill set and start designing and building furniture for his own home. After shopping around, he found that if you’re in the market for minimal, functional and high quality home furnishings you were left with two opposite ends of the spectrum-either really high end pieces that were way out of his budget, or mass produced styles that were nice, but lacked the quality and character he yearned for. With this, he got to work to create the industrial and mid century designed pieces that are still in the shop today.
Growing up in the desert had an impact on Logan’s design sensibilities starting from an early age. A self labeled ‘outdoor kid’ meant that Logan spent the majority of his childhood exploring the vast desert that surrounded Las Vegas, and if he wasn’t doing that, he was skateboarding. These two influences can be seen throughout his designs. One being from the color palette and their names all being inspired by plants, places, and iconic Nevada history. The latter influence sparked the idea for one of our most iconic designs, the Roxy Chair. Growing up, Logan’s main mode of transportation was his trusty skateboard. Always the inquisitive type, Logan started learning about the construction of skateboards which led him to discover his love and appreciation for the art of molded plywood.
Against popular advice, we’ve never succumbed to the pressures to move away from our hand made model by the way of out-sourcing to mass produce. Above all else, we’ve felt the need to keep our integrity and keep things small to ensure our high standards and quality controls are met. We think high quality and well designed pieces should be accessible for everyone. We still create every single piece completely by hand and strive to come up with new, functional, and beautiful designs every day. Each is human-made with care, rooted in the idea of taking a space and making it special with something truly one of a kind. We create original, multi-functional furniture and lighting with a combination of natural and industrial materials. We're constantly creating and adding new styles to the shop, usually designed and created when Logan has an idea for something in his own home.
