After seeing this on the-brick-house, I decided to take a crack at making my own version of a Potence lamp and here’s what I came up with messing around a few hours after work.

The lamp is made with 1/2″ steel tubing and steel flatĀ bar.
The handle is made out of a scrap piece of mahogany that i turned on the lathe.
I used cloth-covered wire that I bought from sundial wire , and electrical plugs and fittings from Lowes.
I know it’s not perfect but it was a quick first attempt. If I make more, I know some better ways to do things but for now I’m satisfied with the lamp.

Hell yes! This has been on my mind for a long time, it’s great to see what you’ve done. Turned out nice!
Thanks man! This lamp was fun to make and it gave me some more ideas (and welding practice).
if you decide to manufacture more and sell, send me a holler! i could use one of those. purdy!
Very, very nice. I know that this is your first protype, even though it looks great, you will make another better. Do you provide DIY instruction so I could make one myself?
Cheers!
You are rather amazing.
Well done!

The Potence lamp was love-at-first sight for me, and will probably always be a love unrequited… Wow, but this makes it seem at least a BIT more attainable! :)
SERIOUSLY – are you making more/selling these??
I’d love one too. Mail me if you’re interested in sending one to Ireland.
